Question:

in the house i have just gutted, i have discovered the remnants of where a toilet once stood which has not been sealed and stinks a fair bit, the plumbing is old cast and i'm wondering if there is either a way of using it or getting rid of it altogether? My second question is, is it also possible to redirect the stack, let's say in the crawlspace above the second floor washroom if I want to change the location of the toilet yet again? (i also would like to extend the bathroom in past the wall where the stack currently comes down.)

Answer:

You can either close off or recycle the old toilet but make sure the lines have not deteriorated to the point where they'll leak sewer gasses into the house. Redirecting the stack will be a bit tricky because above wherever you cut into it, you may have to replace the drainage lines with ABS. The old stuff is too heavy and must either be removed or very well support.
