I am looking at purchasing an investment property, a single family home. It is in good shape except there are some cloudy windows (and I know your fix for that) and two other things - There is some water in the basement (no cracks in the block foundation and no crumbling block or powdery walls), and there is am amazing aroma of the septic system. Can you suggest possible causes that we can check into before committing to this purchase?
Answer:
I'd probably excavate along the wall where the septic tank is and that will tell you whether the tank leaks or not and at the same time, give you some idea of what condition that concrete block wall is in. If the tank leaks, you may find that the odour is there to stay.
