Question:

My toilet bowl (not tank)looses water until only about 1/2 inch is left. It fills normally, then over time drains out. This just started but has been okay for 9 years. What could be causing this? Does it have something to do with the vent stack? Two other toilets in the house behave normally.

Answer:

This sounds like it may the uppermost of the three and if it is, it cannot help but have something to do with the venting. You'll want to check it because once water level in there drops to a given point, sewer gasses start coming up.
