Question:

Just had to replace an 18 year old pump for my outside well due to constant loss of pressure. The new pump works well, but I am wondering what would be a good type of insulation to use over the well cap prior to cover the top of this with the large patio stones used at ground/grass level

Answer:

That will depend on how deep the frost line is in your area and how far down the well head is. It is quite normal to build a box from the well head up to grade level and then fill it with insulation (be that rigid foam slabs or fibre bats and then a cap but a patio stone I don't think is large enough unless your area has a very shallow frost line.
