We have a 60 ft drilled well and we have a 40 year old jet pump in the basement. We have good water pressure in the house. The pump will not shut itself off. About a month ago we purchased a new switch and this solved the problem at least for approx. 3 weeks. Now it is doing the same this with the new switch. I tried adjusting the new switch and didn't solve the problem. I realize it could be a defective switch but I noticed this time the pressure gadge won't build up past 31 pds. But we still have good pressure in the house. Could it be the pump getting to old to pump full pressure? Could you please tell me what a jet pump regulator is?
Answer:
A regulator is exactly what it says it is - it regulates the pressure in the tank. But, you have to have enough water at the other end for it build up to where you want it. This sounds like you might not have enough water in the well. Once it builds up to its max, try shutting it off and not using water for a few minutes and then turn it on again. This should tell you if your 'recovery rate' in the well is where it should be. A quick fix might be to add a couple of feet to the line going into the well.
