Question:

I am confused if a pressure tank last about 8 yr and a well pump 15 if on a pressure tank and maybe 8 ish not on a tank then why bother with the tanks considering 2 tanks cost the same as the pump would just to cover the same 15 yrs? What would the pro's and cons be to replacing the tank and not just capping off the line?

Answer:

No matter how you do it, you need a tank. Neither am I convinced that the tank lasts eight years. Mine at the cottage is now eighteen and is still working as well as the day I installed it and so is the pump. About the only thing I see having to be replaced is the regulator and there is a substantial difference in cost there.
