Question:

We are on a well and we have very little water pressure in our home, it is the same in the kitchen or either bathroom. We do have hard water. When the shower is on, there is a loud whistling sound coming from the pipes. Is there a way to increase the water pressure and to stop the whistling?

Answer:

The first thing to do is check the regulator on the pump. It could be set too low. Normally, in a single story house the pump is set to turn on when water pressure drops to 20 pounds per square inch (PSI) and then turns off again when pressure goes up to 40 PSI. That can be adjusted. The whistling probably has to do with debris collecting in the lines or the taps themselves.
