I live in a bungalow with one bathroom and kitchen on the main floor and laundry facilities in the basement. Several weeks ago, I had my water softener disconnected from the main supply line - our neighbourhood in Manotick (Ontario) switched from well to city water. Since that time, I have occasionally experienced diminished hot water flow throughout the house. When this happens, if I allow the hot water to run for 20 - 30 seconds, there is usually a "thump" in the pipes after which the hot water flow is restored. What about the lines supplying the dishwasher on the main floor and the washing machine in the basement?
Answer:
In one of the offending lines there is a gob of something that shouldn't be there. You'll have to trace where the thud is taking place and open the joint after it. Now you'll be able to turn on the water and have it blown out.
