I bought a house that is on well service. The pressure tank is a 32 gallons that was installed in 1996. The air pressure is at zero and the pump goes all the time there is a demand in the house. I am told the tank is waterlogged and does not produce pressure in the house and the demand is direct on the pump. Can this type of tank be repressurized or is it a lost cause?
Answer:
It certainly can be re-pressurized. Shut off the power to the pump, shut off the water from the well and then drain the tank. You have a bicycle valve on it and you can put air in there to build it up to twenty pounds. Now you can turn the water back on and the power. If the motor turns off at 40 psi, you've go it. It might go to 50 PSI and that means that the next time you do it, you should pump it up to 30 PSI. If the meter stays at zero, you may only need to repalce the regulator the meter is attached to.
