I live in a high ranch house where the sump hole is under the stairs leading to the basement. The house is 25 years old and I have been in it for 2 years. No problem with the sump pump until today. The orignal unit in the hole was a submerged pump and it just stopped working so I replaced it with a new standard 1/3 hp sump pump. Pump works fine but it does not pump any water out. I checked in the front ditch and thought that the pipe was frozen or blocked but it's all clear there.
Answer:
You might want to detach the hose inside and put on a short one leading to the laundry tub to see if the impeller is actually doing its thing. If it is, there has to be a blockage somewhere along the line.
