Question:

We have been told we need only 18,000 btu, mid-eff. unit for our 1500 sq feet.
This seems a bit weird since our window unit is 10,000 btu for a single room. IS it better to go bigger or utilize a smaller unit to its maximum capacity? We are apparently on the border in terms of space for this type.

Answer:

You're approaching the boarder. You need one ton of air condition for each 800 square feet of floor space according to the rule of thumb.
