Question:

I installed a bathroom vent in the main bathroom and it sure makes a difference. My question is, I used the insulated tube from the fan to the outside vent but it is laying on top of the insulation in the attic, having to go across the beams forming the ceiling of the upper level of the house. Do I have to try and add insulation over the whole thing?

Answer:

I probably would but it should not be a necessity unless the tube insulation has a vapour barrier over it. I normally lay R-20 or 28 bats across the tube just to be sure; it's a lot cheaper and easier than fixing the ceiling under it if that becomes necessary.
