Question:

I have a great fireplace in my bedroom. I am quite happy with the heat but not at all with the doors. The fireplace is now 10 years old and has 2 glass doors that have a coating of brass or copper. The coating has become very spotted and discolored. I told the people that installed it and they said the company had gone out of business and that they have other customers with the same problem. They were checking to see if another manufacturer would accept the doors and re-dip them in the appropriate coating. Over a year has passed and there has been no further solution. I am open to any suggestions.

Answer:

The manufacturer may have gone out of business but the people who did the glass work for them must still be around. The same people who you spoke to will have been contacted by whoever is still doing that kind of work because companies that do special features cannot survive or even get established by supplying only one manufacturer. Try this route.
