Question:

On a veterans home, can you add a covered porch to the existing structure without disturbing the existing roof? How would you add the porch to the bungalow without disturbing the roof rafters?

Answer:

You don't have to disturb rafters if you go up the roof a ways and start the porch roof there. The secret here will be in the transition from the existing roof to the new.
