Was thinking of going to a hip roof from a flat roof, it's about 30' square. Right now when we get a thaw and then a flash freeze, and there's still alot of water up top, it sounds like someone is up there with a sledge hammer as it freezes up. I tell you it's incredible how loud the cracking sound can get. It can go on for half a day until it's frozen. Anyway what do you think would be the best cure? And if going to a sloped roof is best what should I look out for. One roofer told me I would have to tear up the intire old flat roof first and someone else said leave it and just put more insulation on top of it?
Answer:
I have no idea of the cost of this because for one thing, I don't even know where you're living. Pay attention to the roofer who said you'd be tearing off all that's there because the other guy appears not to be a roofer.
