Question:

We are putting up a clothes line and the only location is to the centre tree of 3 cedar trees. This cedar has a very large diameter and would be ideal (we think). Our only concern is tree movement from wind. Should we use springs at each end to allow for possible movement (even though this tree does not appear to move in the wind) as we will be attaching the other end to the house.

We have a very large deck sitting eight feet off the ground. The cedar decking is 2 x 6 with 1/2 to 3/4 inch spacing. We would like to use the space below for dry storage. We need to keep the snow and rain off. I thought of fiberglass or plastic sheets to drain off the moisture but the centre bracing running lenghtways under the deck hangs very low and makes this very difficult. What can you suggest from your bag of tricks.

Answer:

No matter how much the top of the tree moves, if the large diameter trunk moves at a height of 15 feet fromthe ground, you're problems go away beyond clothes lines.
