Is a significant build-up of snow (a foot or more)on a slightly pitched roof to be avoided at all costs? In order to prevent any problems, should we consider getting someone to remove some of the snow? The roof is fairly old, and due for replacing within the next few years.
Answer:
If you have trusses that roof should be able to support 3 or 4 feet of snow without problems but if you have rafters, after a couple of feet of snow (particularly if there is ice in that depth) a qualified roofer (not just someone with a shovel) should be brought in.
