Last summer we had a screened in back porch built on to the back of our house. The builder made several mistakes and needless to say it was a nightmare finishing it. A flat roof was attached to the house, then the shingles were removed and a slanted roof was added, first roof still there. My question is can I now have the walls outside of the porch sided? Do I take the batten off to do this? What treatment can I put on the inside of the porch, or do I paint it. What treatment can I use on the board and batten that I only do once.I have heard of a treatment that you apply with a rag and it preserves the wood.
Answer:
The original roof should have come off and with the publicity given PT wood lately, I would not dare use it inside or out. You have the good fortune of having decided to apply new siding. In the process, you can take off and discard the PT lumber and go ahead with the new.
