Since 1987 I have had a leaking roof problem. 100 year old 2 story stone house, 4 gable style. Leaking occurs were the original, one story sunroom protrudes out from the main roof . It had a flat roof that leaked , a sloped roof was built ,this section has been re shingled 5 times since 1987. the entire roof was done 7 years ago. Original cedar shakes removed, plywood, and asphalt shingles applied. Roofing contractor did something to the ventilation/insulation now have icicle buildup.( over 1,000 lb of ice was hanging of the gutters, needed a contractor to remove them.) Presently this home is listed for sale. Should I revert to flat roof, use metal instead of shingles. Other Material? Can I insulate against roof between the rafters?
Answer:
In most cases like this, you'll find the problem to be with the transition from one roof to another or to a sturctural wall. If you address that, the leak should stop.
