Question:

Just wondering, but I am looking at adding an addition to a bungalow (original dimensions are ~26' X 44'). The extension will be 10' out on the 26' side, to make it ~36'. Are there any considerations about tying in the old roof with a new roof on the addition?

Answer:

Never try making the roof line tie into the existing one. Raise (or lower) the addition's roof a foot or so and you won't end up with that bump in the roof line. Make sure you have good back flashing going up from the lower one at least ten or twelve inches - surface flashing can then be added after the new roof is shingled.
