The small roof over my dining room leaked three weeks ago due to ice build up on the roof (new home - I had only moved in a week and a half before). The roof was cleared of ice and is fine now - no more leaking. The builder told me that because insulation is made of glass, and air circulates via the roof vent, the water will just evaporate and the insulation would not be damaged. But is my R value now compromised?
Answer:
Not only your insulation but also the flashings that seal that roof to the house or upper roof. Take a lot of photos because you'll be discussing this with your builder again next year at about this time.
