Question:

I am looking at building a "Green" home for my family. I have been looking at Metal roofs, but have heard that they may leak at the screw holes because of contracting and expanding in the heat and cold. Is this true and what other issues should I be aware of?

Answer:

If leaking at the screw heads were a problem they would't stay on the market for long and they've been there longer than almost anything else. I can think of nothing negative about them except for the cost.

In the interests of retaining credibility that I worked several decades to establish and in fairness to all, I don’t comment on various (building, electrical, plumbing) codes, brand-specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
