Top > Sealant > Counter

Question:

I have a counter top and I want to seal the very fine cracks between the sections of counter. I have been told by that if I use tub & Tile in white (since my counter top is light coloured) it should work. Either I am not doing it correctly eg. letting it set to long or not long enough. I have run a strip of painters tap on each side of the seam and applied it along to concentrate it on the seam without getting it all over the rest of the counter. I have had some success but it does not seem to last as long as I think it should. Is this the correct material & procedure. What am I doing wrong or what should I be doing to increase the longivity of the filled seam. Please spell out each to do this job properly.

Answer:

The only thing you seem to be doing wrong is trying to seal the mitred joints without first disassembling them. Putting sealant on top of them will never last but putting the sealant on and then assembling them to squish out the excess will last for ever. They may be harder to pull apart than it would seem.
