Our summer cottage was broken into a few days ago, and the charming soul who broke in thought it would be great fun to expend the contents of our small fire extinguisher all over the inside of the cottage. The extinguisher itself does not say on it what it contains, only that it is a home type dry chemical fire extinguisher and is about 10 years old. I'm worried, because I have a toddler. Is the chemical used in the extinguisher harmful and/or possibly toxic in any way whatsoever? I have washed all carpeting and drapery, however, should I be up washing walls and ceilings too? The extinguisher itself simply states, "Do not inhale dry chemical."
Answer:
Your last statement tells it all. Take your container over to the nearest fire station and they'll not only tell you what to wash and when but even what to use to neutralize the chemicals you're dealing with.
