Question:

I have a house about 17 yr. old. The aluminum siding has a white powder over it. I don't think it has ever been cleaned. Is there any way of cleaning siding besides hard scrubbing? I heard high pressure hoses can cause serious water damage between the walls? Or, are there any good cleaning products on the market that would make it easier?

Answer:

The white powder is just chalking and it can chalk for a lot of years before actual damage is done to the siding. The high pressure hoses can do a great deal of damage indeed in inexperienced hands. Normally when it comes to cleaning off large surfaces like house walls, it is better to have a pro do it so the end result is even - that takes experience.
