Question:

I am planning to build a log home, I have decided to place the house on a large flat rock (Canadian Sheild). My question is how do I attach the bottom logs to the rock. I assume it will be building on a cement pad. What measures should I take to pervent water damage and rot to the bottom layer? The rock is elevated and dry.

Answer:

If it's elevated and dry, you should be able to get away with only drilling into the rock and then pegging the concrete pad to it with re-bar. I'd also create a crawl space under the cottage proper and then heat that space. This means insulating and vapour barriering the perimeter walls of the crawl space.

In the interests of retaining credibility that I worked several decades to establish and in fairness to all, I don’t comment on various (building, electrical, plumbing) codes, brand-specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
