Question:

Installed plastic strips under the first row of shingles to prevent leaves from filling the eaves trough. Can I leave these installed all winter, or do I risk water rising up underneath the singles

Answer:

As long as the troughs fill with water and then freeze, water will migrate up under the shingles. That is why we install ice and water shield (3 ft. wide) and drip ledges.
