Question:

I am currently investigating extending my kitchen. This addition would be built on the existing cement porch. I have a 4 foot foundation. There is a 4-5 inch concrete slab on top of the porch which is 4 feet high. Would you recommend to remove this slab or build on top. Also if your recommendation is to build right on top - What insulation and preparation of the slab is needed? (The outside walls of the concrete porch are 8 inches thick)

Answer:

I'd introduce radiant hydroponic or electrical heat to the slab and then build from there up.
