Question:

I'm replacing an existing garage that has a hip style roof.I want to build a post and beam structure with an open cieling. What size rafters and beam will I need to span 20-22 feet?

Answer:

This is something your local building authority will have to dictate to you. I don't know where you live and even I did, local bylaws differ from one jurisdiction to another. Your insurance company will also want to know all about it.
