Question:

We are about to start renos in our house that incldes removing a wall. How can we ensure it is/is not load bearing? We have a bungalow (1991), the wall we want to take down is about 10' long starting from the outside wall and perpendicular to the roof joists (34' long). Our home inspector looked at the wall and commented that since this is a bungalow there are no load bearing walls.
Is this true and if not how do we be sure it is not load bearing?

Answer:

If the beam in the basement is immediately under the wall in question, I'd want to be careful about taking it out without leaving behind a good beam at the ceiling level.
