Question:

Our house is 24 years old and I have had some of the bottom cement blocks replaced. I would like to know if there is a mortar or cement or a compound that I can maybe brush on to keep the dampness out as they say this is what is causing it. I have seen some houses that seem to have done this around the bottom on the blocks and not only does it look good but serves the purpose. I would appreciate knowing of what there may be or what can be done. Also to patch same what would be the best compound to use.

Answer:

If the replaced blocks are below grade, you'll have to apply any of several products on the market to keep them from leaking. If they're above grade, again, there are several products on the market for them but now you're main consideration is going to be aesthetics rather than integrity as it would below grade. You local masonry supply people will be able to suggest.
