In a older 140 plus field stone basement on sand how do I best digout and lower the floor about 12 to 18 inches? Also how do I install radiant in-floor heating in the basement floor and between the floor joists for first floor heating?
Answer:
You don't lower the floor; you raise the house to deepen the basement. Radiant heat will have a manufacturer's brochure telling you how to install it. You violate those instructions at your own peril and you dig down beyond the base of the founation walls under the same conditions.
