Question:

Hi Ren, we just bought a house that is around 40-50 yrs.old. We are told that the exterior is brick veneer. Can you tell me how good is this type of covering and any info about it. The brick seems to be in pretty good shape.

Answer:

This is a single layer of bricks applied to the exterior or the structure with a one-inch (or so)gap between it and the structure itself. Between every third and fourth brick along the bottom course there should be no mortar in order to avoid moisture build-up in that gap. Evrything about itis positive and is about as good as it gets for residential construction in North America.

Telephone and E mail information is always free so please don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
