My wife and i have bought an old property ,and would like to lower the basement floor, how do go about doing this ? and what problems could we come across ?
Answer:
Forget lowering the basement floor. Particularly in an old building this is dangerous to both the people doing the work and to the structure itself. You'll be better off renting the beams and jacks and raising the house so the foundation walls can be built up to whatever depth you want the basement at. Terracing is much easier than dealing with foundation walls that folded in.
