Question:

We have just purchased some Crown Molding to complete the mantle of our hearth for our gas fireplace. We are having difficulty cutting the mitred corners - can you help or advise of a site where we could learn more. One of our problems is that we do not have a compound mitre saw - do we really need one or can we do it without?

Answer:

I wouldn't dare try it without a compound mitre saw because firstly, the wood is too expensive to monkey with it, secondly, although according to some Greek mathamatician opposite angles are equal, I've managed to challenge that too many times when it comes to woodwork. You can rent such a saw and still save money by doing it yourselves.
