Question:

I'm doing some home renovation and need to know the best way to remove foil wallpaper prior to painting.

Answer:

You best bet, if its old, is to rough up the surface with a steel wire brush or some such and apply wallpaper removing compound. Once that's taken effect, you can scrape the whole thing clean with a 3" putty knife. The residue adhesive that's on the wall will come off with a sponge and hot water but make sure you have good drop sheets because if any of it ends up on a carpet, you'll not get it out.
