I have a recessed triangular cabinet that's supposed to have a mirrored wall and ceiling. I'm concerned about vibration cracking the mirror. Do I leave a 1/8" gap between the pieces? If so how is the gap covered? The sides of this cabinet are framed like a window and there are jambs on the sides. Where the jambs meet the mirror, do I use cove to cover the edge as the sides aren't perfectly square. I've made cardboard templates of the 3 pieces. The mirror people said they would cut the 3 pieces 1/8" smaller. Anything else to be aware of when doing this with mirror?
Answer:
There's no problem making the mirror segments smaller but the best way to seal the seams is with a caulking compound. You'll have to be very precise with the caulking gun but it gives the thinnest and least obvious seal in cases like this. It also does away with any danger or breakage from vibration. The glass people should have the compound there for you and if some of it has to be held in with trim, they should have that too.
