Top > Tools & Equipment > Duct

Question:

I am having a new furnace installed and was advised to get the ducts cleaned beforehand. Any tips on what to look for?

Answer:

About the main thing is to make sure the machine used moves 20K pounds of air per minute. Each grill has to be covered (newspaper will do) and then as each one is uncovered, the operator will inject 12K/Min of air before covering it again and going on to the next. This is done for warm and return air grills. The only other, non-work related, aspect is to make sure you hire somone local rather than an out-of-towner. A good job will take at least two hours on a modest (1200 sq. ft.) bungalow.
