We live in a house with no basement. Is it possible to raise the house and put a basement under now? Will the floor in the house be level after it is put on a basement; because right now it is not, it seems like we are going down hill about 3 inches in some places.
Answer:
No matter what you do, the house will have to be jacked anyway. That said, if at all possible, you might want to raise the house, block it up, and then put in a full basement before lowering it again. If you plan the placement of the raising beams properly, you can introduce windows where the beams protude during this operation.
Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
