Question:

I own a 10 year old house in Orleans, Ontario with a large double car garage, I want to put an entrance door from my garage to the basement. This would involve cutting a hole in the poured concrete foundation and some digging. Is this something I can do myself with a concrete saw from a rental store? I'm not afraid of the doing the work but I am concerned about weakening the foundation. Have you any experience with this or any advice?

Answer:

My suggestion is to get it done by someone who knows what he's about because the garage foundation may not go as deep as the house foundation. For that matter, the garage may very well be on a slab so once you go through it, you could be in the embarrassing position of having tinkered with more than the integrity of the floor.
