I am having a window installed above the sink. I have to re-route some electrical wires. When I removed the drywall I found that the vent pipe from my sink runs where the window will be. The vent pipe runs down from the 2nd floor to the top of the concrete in the basement where it ends with a taped cap, not an ABS cap. Above the sink level there is a branch to vent the sink waste water pipe. My question is, why does the vent go to the basement and end with a tape cap? And when I re-route the vent pipe should I also move this extension or can I eliminate it? Maybe I should ask if I should reroute the vent pipe?
Answer:
Not being on site, I could not tell you why it ends with a capped end but I would re-route the line rather than eliminate anything if its been working satisfactorly in the past.
