Question:

how far below the sink can the trap be? the easiest spot is below the floor in the basement, about 48 inches down. i'm mounting a pedistal sink with not much room
in the pedistal cavity.

Answer:

Actually, there's lots of room under there for the trap but you can put it lower if you like - I find 48 inches a bit far but you if it drains (ventilation), you'll know that it works.
