Question:
I replaced my roof this summer and the contractor and I both felt the roof suffered from a lack of ventilation to the attic. There are 3 turbines on the roof but I believe the rigid foam in the soffits have collapsed. What can I do? It is not easy to go in the attic as I put in R50 of blown insulation.
Answer:
You may very well be into taking off the soffits, installing new and more rigid venting system there and then replacing all the vented soffit. If that's the case, the aluminum components can be numbered and removed. Numbering makes it more convenient to re-install them. To ensure that they all go back the same way, a soft pencil can be used to put a small mark on each second one and a corresponding mark on the siding. When pencil marks no longer align during re-installation, you know that at least one panel was not put into precisely the same spot it was removed from. When you re-install all of it, the pencil marks can be removed easily.
