Question:

I do not follow your answer to my qestion about solving the problem of aluminum vented soffits which are stuffed with difficult to remove insulation. You refer to wooden soffits which mine are not. Also, I have no roof vents. Will the installation of U channels solve the problem. As I understand it, U channels are styrofoam covers which go over the rafters.

Answer:

So you can take a short cut. Remove the aluminum as I suggested earlier and get rid of the insulation that is blocking their venting capability. Now install the U chancels and then return the soffits. U chanels do not fit over rafters, they slide up against the roof decking so the void in the U permits air to travel. they should be installed between at least every second pair of rafters to be useful to you. None of this will solve your problem though if you have no upper roof ventilation. This can be done with either mushroom vents or a baffled ridge vent.
