Question:

I want to build a cedar closet in my basement of my 18 year old home. I don’t have a moister problem in the basement but I have a concern about the new closet. Should I make a dummy vent that lead from the closet out into the rest of the basement? Someone told me that I should make it at the top of a wall, after listening to you talk about ventilation all the time, I think it should go on the bottom. What do you think?

Answer:

Venting a cedar closet defeats its purpose so I would not put in any vent at all and, in fact, I would even weather strip all four contact points of the door.
