Question:

We have a 2nd floor dryer which is vented under an overhang on the 2nd story. We had an bird screen installed. It is metal with about 1 cm square opening...the lint builds up and I have to clean it off once a month. Is there a silicone spray or something I can do so the lint does not build up all the time and obstruct the airflow? It cost me some money to have it installed so didn't want to have something different installed!

Answer:

Half-inch (or so) squares on that plate is about as good as it gets as far as I know. If louvered vents are working properly, they tend to keep the birds away too.

In the interests of retaining credibility that I worked several decades to establish and in fairness to all, I don’t comment on various (building, electrical, plumbing) codes, brand-specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
