Question:

My home is 12 years old. The dryer vents into a crawl space in my basement. Is this normal? Should vent this to the outside?

Answer:

That is about the worst place you can vent it to. Get it outside as soon as you can. Every time you turn on the dryer, you're putting roughly a gallon of water into the crawl space atmosphere and the wooden structural components (beams, joists, sub-flooring, etc.) cannot tolerate that for long without rotting.
