Question:

You mentioned introducing more ventilation to a room that has so much mildew. How might I put this into practice?

Answer:

To my way of thinking, there is no house that should be without a large diameter ceiling fan that never gets turned off but blow air downward at slow speed year 'round, bathrooms with 110 CFM (cubic feet per minute) exhaust fans and some form of good ventilation in the basement. Doors to rooms and closets should also be left open as much as possible.
