I am putting in a new bigger bathroom fan. The tubing for the old fan followed a very curved path which seems as if it had been kinked in spots and the opening for the exterior vent is now too small. I am wondering what my next step should be. Is there any wrong with placing the fan on the wall instead of the ceiling?
Answer:
Nothing at all provided its high enough and can be vented in such a way that the ducting doesn't bring bring cold air back into the bathroom. I vent kitchen range hood vents as follows: In the interests of energy conservation, indoor air quality and occupant comfort, kitchen range hood fan ducting should be installed in such a way as to turn the metal ducting downward 90-degrees as it enters the perimeter wall cavity. After 15 to 18 inches, it must turn another 90-degrees to go outside. This ensures that because cold air will not migrate upward, it doesn't get fed back into the kitchen.
