Question:

I am moving into a 25 year old home that has roughed-in plumbing for a toilet and sink in the basement. I want to breakup the concrete floor to add a drain for a shower and a vent for the toilet. How do I go about this?

Answer:

You'll have to track the main soil pipe and use a TY to tap into it with a 2" line. Breaking up the floor is best done from the toilet so you know which direction the soil pipe runs. It should be straight and if you remove the toilet, you might even be able to see which direction the elbow under it turns.
